# Dashboard use cases

> Common dashboard patterns by audience — executive, performance, client report, creative, attribution — with the widget mix that fits each.

Different teams build dashboards for different purposes. A weekly executive summary asks different questions than a creative team's word-cloud breakdown, and the widget mix changes accordingly. Common patterns include the use cases below.

Many of these use cases ship as starting points in the [Template gallery](/dashboards/building/templates) — pick a matching template and customize the data sources to skip most of the setup work.

For the catalog of individual widget types and how each one is set up, see the [Widget library](/widgets/widget-library/overview).

## Widget categories at a glance

* **Tables** — Ads table, custom tables, and small tables. The richest format for row-by-row breakdowns. See [Ads table](/widgets/widget-library/table-widgets/ads-table) and [Custom tables](/widgets/widget-library/table-widgets/generic-table).
* **Time-series charts** — Line, column (vertical and horizontal), and combo charts compare trends over time or across segments.
* **Distribution charts** — Pie and donut charts show relative share, for example spend split across channels.
* **Single-metric tiles** — One aggregated number, ideal for top-line indicators in an executive overview.
* **Goal widget** — Tracks one or more metrics against a target with a progress bar and optional [performance ranges](/widgets/widget-library/other-widgets/goal-widget).
* **Creative widgets** — Creative gallery, word cloud, color clustering, and emoji analysis surface patterns from ad copy and creative assets. Word cloud and emoji analysis require ad text to populate; pure-image creatives show **No data available**.
* **Funnel chart** — Step-by-step conversion and exit rates for sequential events.
* **Scatter plot** — Two metrics on X and Y to reveal correlations. See [Scatter plot widget](/widgets/widget-library/chart-widgets/scatter-plot).
* **Filter widget** — A control widget that scopes other widgets on the dashboard.
* **Notepad** — Free-text commentary, useful inside client reports.

## Customizing widget appearance

Every widget has its own **widget settings** panel — open it from the gear icon in the widget header. The panel exposes inputs (metrics, breakdowns), axis controls, chart sub-type, and color scheme. Dashboard-wide styling (background, default widget colors, fonts, page-break behavior in report mode) is set from the dashboard's style panel.
