# How to connect

> How to connect the Kakao Message data source to Adriel: authorize a Kakao Business account, select the ad account, and import KakaoTalk message ad performance.

Kakao Message covers KakaoTalk message ad campaigns — push messages delivered to users who are friends of a Kakao channel. Connecting it brings message ad campaigns, ad groups, and message creatives into Adriel dashboards alongside send, delivery, read, click, and conversion metrics reported in KRW.

## Before you connect

The following are required:

* A Kakao Business account with Kakao Moment access.
* Active or recently active KakaoTalk message ad campaigns on the account.
* Permission to authorize third-party access on the Kakao Business account.
* Access to the target Kakao Moment ad account that owns the message campaigns.

Kakao Message is a separate connector from Kakao Moment, which covers display advertising (banner and video) across Kakao properties. The two formats have different metrics, pricing models, and attribution, so each runs as its own data source.

## Connect Kakao Message

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the connector">
    On the **Data Sources** page, search for **Kakao Message** and select it. Confirm the display-vs-message distinction before continuing; display campaigns are handled by the separate Kakao Moment connector.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Authorize a Kakao Business account">
    Click **Connect** to open the Kakao authorization screen. Sign in with the Kakao Business account and approve the requested OAuth scopes. This is the same Kakao Business account used for Kakao Moment display.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Select the ad account">
    After the redirect, pick the Kakao Moment ad account that owns the message campaigns. Each data source binds to one ad account.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose metrics and breakdowns">
    Select the message ad metrics to import — sent, delivered, reads, link clicks, and conversions — and the breakdowns to report on (campaign, ad group, message creative, day).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save the data source">
    Save to complete the connection. Historical backfill begins on the standard refresh schedule and campaigns appear once the initial sync finishes.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## What gets imported

The connector imports spend, delivery, and engagement metrics for KakaoTalk message ads at daily granularity in KRW, broken down by campaign, ad group, and message creative. Engagement metrics include messages sent, delivered, reads, read rate, link clicks, CTR, and attributed conversions.

For the complete list of metrics, breakdowns, and reporting limits, see the [Kakao Message data reference](/data-sources/g-n/kakao-message/data-reference).

## Troubleshooting

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="No campaigns appear after authorization">
    The authorized Kakao Business account has no message ad campaigns on the selected ad account, or the account holds only display campaigns. Confirm message campaigns exist in Kakao Moment, or use the Kakao Moment connector instead for display-only accounts.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="OAuth fails or returns to the connector form">
    The Kakao Business session expired during authorization, or the account does not have permission to grant third-party access. Sign in to Kakao Business in a separate tab first, confirm administrator permission, and retry the connection.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Display metrics expected but missing">
    Display ad metrics (impressions, banner and video views, video completions) are not exposed by this connector — they belong to Kakao Moment. Connect the Kakao Moment connector as a separate data source for display reporting.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Token refresh fails after a long period">
    The OAuth refresh token expired or was revoked from the Kakao Business side. Disconnect and re-authorize the data source to issue a fresh token pair.
  </Accordion>
