Google Trends measures the relative popularity of search terms over time and across locations. Connecting it brings normalized search-interest data into Adriel dashboards, returned as an index from 0 to 100 — where 100 is the peak popularity of a term in the selected timeframe and location — rather than absolute search volumes. It is best used to compare keywords, track seasonality, and spot emerging topics.

Before you connect

Google Trends works with public search data, so there is no account to authorize and no OAuth sign-in. Gather the following before starting:
  • The keywords to track, up to 5 per query for side-by-side comparison.
  • A start date for the trend series. The start date must be before yesterday and within the last 260 days.
  • The timezone, location, category, and search type that match the analysis, if the defaults are not wanted.
1

Select Google Trends

On the Data Sources page, search for Google Trends and select it.
2

Enter a Connection Name

Input a Connection Name. This labels the connection information and helps differentiate between multiple sets of credentials.
3

Complete the required fields

Fill in the four required fields:
  • Datasource Name — any identifiable name for this data source.
  • Keyword — one or more keywords. Separate multiple values with commas (,); spaces between values are disregarded.
  • Start Date — select the date from which trend index values are extracted.
  • Timezone — select the timezone from the dropdown.
4

Set the optional fields

Adjust the three optional fields, or leave them on their defaults:
  • Location — select from the dropdown. If not selected, Worldwide is the default.
  • Category — select from the dropdown. If not selected, All categories is the default.
  • Search Type — select from the dropdown. Options are Web Search, Image Search, News Search, YouTube Search, and Google Shopping. If not selected, Web Search is the default.
5

Submit

Click Submit to complete the connection. The initial sync runs in the background, and the trend series appears in dashboards once the first fetch finishes.

What gets imported

The connector imports normalized search-interest data for each keyword: interest over time (the 0–100 index), interest by region, and related queries (top and rising). Multiple keywords produce separate series for the same dates, and Adriel groups the results into standard daily, weekly, and monthly views alongside other connectors. For the complete list of metrics, breakdowns, refresh cadence, and limits, see the Google Trends data reference.

Troubleshooting

The start date must be before yesterday and within the last 260 days from yesterday. Choose a date inside that window.
Google Trends limits a single comparison query to 5 keywords. To track more terms, create additional Google Trends data sources.
Google Trends suppresses results for terms below its internal search-volume threshold. Low-volume or very specific keywords can return empty series. Try a broader term or a wider timeframe.
Google Trends re-normalizes the 0–100 index for each requested window, so the index reflects relative popularity within that timeframe rather than an absolute count. Values are expected to shift when the timeframe changes.
