Reddit Public imports publicly visible Reddit data for targets designated as monitoring assets — Redditor profiles, subreddit metadata and top posts, or live thread engagement. Connecting authorizes a Reddit account so the connector can call the authenticated Reddit API; each data source tracks one of three asset types: a username, a subreddit, or a thread.

Before you connect

The following are required:
  • A Reddit account with permission to authorize third-party apps.
  • The target value for the asset being monitored: a Reddit username (without u/), a subreddit slug (without r/), or a thread URL or post ID.
The targets being monitored do not need to belong to the authorizing account; the OAuth grant only authorizes API access.

1

Authorize a Reddit account

On the Data Sources page, search for Reddit Public and select it. Sign in to Reddit in the pop-up using the authorizing account, then click Allow to grant the required scopes.
2

Choose the asset type and target

On the data source settings, set Type to User, Subreddit, or Live Thread. Enter the target in the matching field — Username, Subreddit, or Thread — so the data source has an identifiable name. If the field is left blank, undefined appears next to the selected Type in the data source name.
3

Submit

Click Submit to complete the connection. Data is fetched live from Reddit on each dashboard query.

What gets imported

Public profile, subreddit, or thread data is fetched live from the Reddit API on each dashboard query rather than cached, which keeps numbers current — particularly for live threads. Username assets expose karma totals and recent submissions; subreddit assets expose subscriber counts and top posts; thread assets expose live score, upvote ratio, and comment activity. To monitor multiple targets, create one data source per target. For the complete list of metrics, breakdowns, and limits, see the Reddit Public data reference.

Troubleshooting

Asset type is fixed when the data source is created. Tracking the same target as both a subreddit and an individual thread requires two separate data sources.
Reddit Public hits the live API on every render and has no result cache. Spacing widgets across dashboards or reducing widget count mitigates load time and per-token rate limiting.
Banned or quarantined subreddits, deleted users, and removed threads stop returning data. Verify the target still exists and is publicly accessible.
Reddit issues permanent refresh tokens, but they can be revoked from Reddit account settings. Reauthorize the data source to restore the connection.
