Answers to common questions about how the Semrush data source behaves in Adriel, plus fixes for results that look wrong.

Why did my Semrush data source disconnect on its own?

Semrush bills every API call as API units drawn from the subscription that owns the API key used to connect. When that key runs out of units, Semrush rejects further calls, and Adriel automatically disconnects the data source so it stops failing silently. Reconnecting or reloading dashboards will not restore data until the underlying subscription has units again. To resolve it, add or purchase more API units on the Semrush account tied to the key, then reconnect the data source. High-refresh dashboards, many simultaneous viewers, or several data sources sharing one key all draw down units faster, so smaller Semrush plans exhaust their monthly budget more easily. See How to connect Semrush to reconnect.

Why do my Semrush numbers change when I switch the database (region)?

Each Semrush data source is scoped to a single database — a regional SERP index such as us, uk, de, or mobile-us. Keyword volumes, positions, traffic estimates, and domain figures are all computed against that one index, so a domain that ranks well in us can show entirely different numbers in de. The values are not wrong; they describe different markets. Because the figures are index-specific, results from different databases are not directly comparable and should not be summed or averaged together. To compare markets side by side, create one data source per database and place them in separate widgets rather than expecting a single widget to reconcile them.

Why does the same keyword appear on multiple rows in a position-tracking report?

In organic position-tracking reports, each keyword and tracked URL pair is emitted once for every tag assigned to that keyword. A keyword with three tags produces three rows, and a keyword with no tags surfaces as a single row labeled no tag. This is expected: it lets the same keyword be reported under each of its tags. To keep totals sensible, numeric metrics in tracking reports (position, visibility, share of voice, average CPC, searches per month) use mean (average) aggregation rather than summing across the duplicated rows. Adding Tag as a breakdown in the widget makes the duplication intentional and readable; leaving it out but expecting one row per keyword is the usual cause of the confusion.

Why is my domain data monthly when position tracking is daily?

Granularity depends on the report family. Position-tracking reports return daily rows, so rank, visibility, and share of voice can be charted day by day. Domain-analytics families — organic search, paid search, and backlinks — are returned at monthly granularity only; daily rows are not available for them. Monthly figures are dated to a representative day within each month, so a monthly point may not line up exactly with a daily one on the same chart. For daily organic trends, use a position-tracking report type. For domain-level authority, traffic, and backlink metrics, expect monthly points and choose a monthly or automatic time breakdown.

Why are some position, CPC, or search-volume values blank?

In position-tracking reports, position, average CPC, searches per month, share of voice, and visibility are returned empty when Semrush reports 0, -, or no data for that keyword and URL on that date. A blank cell means Semrush had nothing to report for that combination, not that the metric failed to load. Newly added keywords, keywords that dropped out of the tracked SERP, or dates before tracking began all commonly show blanks. Widening the date range or waiting for the next sync usually fills gaps once Semrush has fresh data. See the Semrush data reference for how each metric is sourced.

Can I change the report type after connecting?

No. The report type — for example organic position tracking, referring domains, or a domain overview — is chosen when the connection is created and governs which Semrush surface, fields, and defaults apply to the data source. It cannot be changed afterward. To report on a different Semrush surface, create a new data source with the report type needed and add its widgets alongside the existing ones.
