Why can’t I break down deals by UTM and pipeline at the same time?

Pipeline and currency are deal-side breakdowns, while UTM breakdowns come from contacts and are resolved through a contact-to-deal join. Because that relationship is many-to-many — one deal can link to several contacts, and one contact can link to several deals — the two kinds of breakdown cannot be grouped together in a single widget. A query that combines a deal breakdown with a UTM breakdown is rejected with an INVALID_DIMENSIONS_METRICS_COMBINATION error. Each widget should use one kind of breakdown, either UTM-based or deal-based. To compare both perspectives, build two widgets side by side.

Why do my UTM-broken-down deal totals look inflated?

A single deal can be associated with more than one contact. When a widget groups deals by a UTM breakdown and those contacts carry different UTM values, the same deal can land in more than one group, so the totals summed across UTM rows can exceed the true deal total. Adriel surfaces a duplicated-data warning on widgets where this can happen. To keep each deal in a single group, HubSpot Deals attributes the deal to the associated contact with the earliest (smallest numeric) ID. For an exact, non-duplicated total, use a deal-side breakdown such as pipeline or currency, or no breakdown at all, instead of a UTM breakdown.

Why did a new pipeline stage not show up as a metric?

The four deal metrics — deal count, deal amount, deal MRR, and deal TCV — are exposed per pipeline stage, and only for the stage labels selected when the data source was created. A stage added to a pipeline in HubSpot afterward is not registered automatically. To surface it, edit the data source and select the new stage; its per-stage metrics become available on the next sync. See the HubSpot Deals data reference for how the data source refreshes.

Why do I need to reconnect HubSpot Deals separately from HubSpot?

HubSpot Deals authorizes independently from the standard HubSpot data source. Connecting the same portal to both means completing two separate authorization steps, one for each data source, and reconnecting one does not reconnect the other. This is expected: HubSpot Deals focuses on deal and pipeline attribution, while the standard HubSpot connector reports raw contacts, companies, deals, and marketing emails. See How to connect HubSpot Deals to Adriel.

Why do some deals show “not set” in a UTM breakdown, or drop out of it entirely?

UTM values are read from the parameters captured on a contact’s first or last tracked URL. When a contact’s URL carries some UTM parameters but not others, the missing ones are normalized to the string not set so the deal still groups cleanly. When a contact has no UTM values at all, it is excluded from UTM-broken-down widgets, so deals attributed only to those contacts do not appear in them. Deal-side breakdowns such as pipeline and currency, and unbroken totals, always include every deal regardless of UTM coverage.

How do I attribute deals to first-touch versus last-touch campaigns?

HubSpot Deals provides both first-touch and last-touch UTM breakdowns for source, medium, campaign, content, and term. First-touch breakdowns group by the UTM values on a contact’s first tracked URL, crediting the campaign that originally acquired the contact. Last-touch breakdowns group by the most recent URL that carried UTM parameters, crediting the campaign active just before the deal progressed. Both sets are available as separate breakdowns, so a dashboard can present each attribution model in its own widget.
