Why can’t I combine metrics from two different report templates?
Each YouTube Analytics data source is configured against a single report template at creation, and that template fixes the exact breakdown-and-metric combination the data source can report on. YouTube aggregates values against those specific combinations, so pulling metrics from one template alongside metrics from another produces inconsistent totals or query errors rather than a meaningful blend. To report on a metric that lives in a different template, create a separate data source for that template and place its widgets on the dashboard. For the full template-by-template list of metrics and breakdowns, see the YouTube Analytics data reference. Can I change the report template, metrics, or breakdowns after connecting?
No. The report type, detailed report type (Video Reports or Playlist Reports), and report template are chosen at setup and locked afterward, along with the metrics and breakdowns that template exposes. Switching to a different reporting slice means connecting an additional YouTube Analytics data source with the template that fits the new need. The original data source keeps working unchanged. Why are my subscriber or demographic numbers missing for some videos?
Two behaviors are usually at play. First, a metric only appears when it belongs to the data source’s selected template. For example, subscriber gains and losses come through the templates that expose engagement metrics, and age, gender, and viewer-percentage figures come through the Viewer demographics template. A data source built on a different template will not return them. Second, YouTube withholds some data — demographics in particular — when the underlying counts fall below a reporting threshold. Those thresholds are set by YouTube, are not published, and can change at its discretion, so a low-traffic video may show no demographic breakdown even on the correct template. Why does my YouTube data lag two to three days behind?
YouTube finalizes analytics on a delay: figures are typically complete only up to about three days before the request date, and the most recent days can still change as YouTube reconciles them. This is a property of YouTube’s own reporting, not of how the data source stores the data, so the last day or two may read low until YouTube settles the numbers. For how often the cached data is pulled from YouTube, see the YouTube Analytics data reference. How do I report on more than 300 videos?
A single YouTube Analytics data source covers up to 300 videos, sorted by publication date. That cap is fixed and cannot be raised for a Video Reports data source. Two options help when a channel has more videos than that. Playlist Reports aggregate activity at the playlist level and are not subject to the 300-video cap, so grouping content into playlists on YouTube and reporting on those playlists can extend coverage. Narrowing a widget to the specific videos that matter also keeps reporting within the covered set.Can I report on YouTube revenue or ad earnings?
No. The YouTube Analytics data source reports on channel activity — views, watch time, engagement, subscribers, cards and annotations, audience retention, demographics, and playlist activity — but monetary figures such as revenue and ad earnings are not available through it. When a metric is not exposed, the practical path is to report on the closest available activity metric instead. The YouTube Analytics data reference lists every metric each template provides.Common issues
Why do YouTube Analytics numbers differ from YouTube Studio or why does a channel have no data?
Why do YouTube Analytics numbers differ from YouTube Studio or why does a channel have no data?
YouTube Analytics reports are date-based. Views is the sum of views during the selected date range, not the video’s lifetime views. Numbers match only when both YouTube’s UI and the Adriel widget use the exact same range.Other things to check:
- YouTube’s own API only exposes data once a video accumulates enough activity, may withhold values below undisclosed thresholds, and returns no data for dates with no user activity.
- YouTube data is typically only complete up to 3 days before the request.
- YouTube Analytics filters videos by Video Published At and won’t return videos from a different channel. If a widget is empty, verify the correct channel is connected.
