The overview widget is a horizontal strip of metric tiles that gives an at-a-glance summary of a dashboard’s key KPIs. Each metric selected becomes one child tile inside the widget, and each tile can be styled or reordered independently.

When to use an overview widget

Overview widgets are versatile, but a few common patterns:
  • As a dashboard header — a horizontal summary at the top of a dashboard that answers “what should I know first?”
  • Multi-metric KPI displays — several key metrics side by side in one widget instead of scattered across many single-metric widgets.
  • Reports and shared dashboards — a scannable summary before the deeper widget breakdowns.

Pick a data source

In the Data sources section, select the data source to include.

Pick metrics

Each metric selected becomes one child tile inside the widget. The order metrics are added is the order tiles render — but tiles can be reordered later by dragging.
Widget changes save automatically when the settings panel closes. Persist changes to the dashboard by clicking Save dashboard.

Optional fields

  • Widget filter — narrow the data feeding the widget. See Filters.
  • Hide graph — turn the small graph under each metric value on or off. When off (default), each tile shows a graph of the metric’s movement across the period. When on, each tile shows just the aggregated total.
  • Period — override the dashboard’s date range. See Date ranges.

Child tiles

Each metric becomes a child tile with up to four parts:
  • Metric name at the top.
  • Aggregated value below the name.
  • Comparison value — when the Compare toggle is on, the comparison-period value renders alongside.
  • Graph — a small inline chart showing the metric’s movement across the period. Hidden when Hide graph is turned on.
Tiles can be reordered by dragging to arrange them in the desired left-to-right sequence. Drag is desktop-only — on mobile, tiles are read-only.

Empty state

When no data is returned for a tile — for example, the metric returned zero rows in the current date range — the value renders as -.

Widget styling

Global widget style settings — font, border, background, and color themes — apply to every widget through the Dashboard style settings. On top of those, Overview widgets have style options unique to this widget type:
  • Metric border — border color (HEX) and weight applied to each child metric tile.
  • Metric name font — weight, size, and HEX color for the metric name at the top of each tile.
  • Metric value font — weight, size, and HEX color for the aggregated value on each tile.
  • Number display — controls how tile values render at the widget level:
    • Display format — Short scale (compact notation like 12.3K) or Full number (12,345).
    • Decimal digits — how many decimal places to show (for example, 0.0).
    Each child tile also has a per-tile kebab menu that opens a styling drawer to override the widget-level number display for that tile only.

Troubleshooting

Confirm the metric produces values in the current date range, and that the data source is selected. See Data not loading.
Drag tiles to reorder them. Save the dashboard to persist the new order.
Number formats are set per-tile via the kebab menu. Confirm each tile has the intended format or reset all tiles to the widget-level default.
